This year's color trends emphasize warmth, comfort, and a connection to nature. It's a continued trend over the last several years with more brown used. (See my January 2025 blog post.) These are ideal colors to use as part of a comprehensive interior design plan in a home. Curious how to integrate them into your interiors? Here are some ideas.
From earthy neutrals to bold statement shades, these colors set the tone for inviting and stylish interiors. Here's how to incorporate the top hues into your home.
1. Warm Earth Tones
Shades like terracotta, brown, and clay are making a strong comeback, adding depth and organic warmth to interiors. These colors work well in living rooms and dining spaces, especially with natural wood, leather, and woven textures. Try a terracotta feature wall, rust-colored throw pillows, or clay-toned ceramics to introduce warmth without overwhelming the space.
We've also used these hues in bedrooms—on walls, rugs, carpets, or even bedding like duvet covers—to create a darker, moodier space that looks especially elegant in the evenings with ambient lighting. We always balance the dark decor with white, cream, or other neutral-toned elements, such as bedding, walls, or art.
2. Serene Blues and Greens
Soft blues and muted greens remain popular for their calming and restorative qualities. We incorporated these colors when we designed the wedding venue cottage last year, using beautiful pastel blue and green in items like bed linens and cushions. These hues create a peaceful sanctuary in bedrooms and bathrooms but are also perfect for a study or home library. Consider light-colored bedroom furniture or a soft green armchair to add a refreshing yet subtle touch of color.
3. Vibrant Reds and Deep Purples
Perennial's favorite jewel tones, like ruby red, deep purple, and plum, are trending among those who love drama and depth. I love these rich colors in intimate spaces like reading nooks, dining rooms, home offices, or powder rooms. Incorporate them through statement furniture, bold wallpaper, or luxurious velvet accents for a moody yet sophisticated look. If you're not ready to go all in on such bold colors, I recommend introducing them with throw pillows or drapery.
4. Timeless Neutrals
Classic neutrals, such as creamy white, warm taupe, greige, and soft beige, are always in style. These shades create the perfect backdrop for layering textures and adding pops of color. They're ideal for big-ticket items like custom furniture, which you won't swap out for years because the colors won't go out of style.
Balance is key when incorporating colors into your interior design. Pair bold shades with neutral foundations, layer textures for depth, and use lighting to enhance the mood of each space.
