Five Ideas for Beautiful Curb Appeal

Your home's exterior design is as important as its interior. After all, it's what visitors will see first! As we emerge from our winter days of hibernating inside, spring is a great time to spruce up your home's curb appeal. Great curb appeal can not only make your neighbors happy, but it can also help sell your home if you plan to list it. Here are five great ideas to boost your home's curb appeal:

1) Accessorize Your Porch

Some of the prettiest houses I drive by have beautifully accessorized and decorated front porches. You can achieve this by adding outdoor items such as colorful throw pillows and cushions, rugs, furniture, and a few decorative items. Coordinate the decor to your home's architectural style for a polished appearance. If you have a deep front porch, consider adding an outdoor table lamp to enhance its charm.

2) Repaint Front Door

Repainting your front door can be a cost-effective way to improve the appearance of your home's exterior. If you want to add an exterior focal point, try repainting your front door in a bold color. However, even a more subdued color can give your house a modern and refreshed look with a simple paint touch-up.

Here are five appealing colors that are perfect for a front door.

3) Add Flower Pots

To improve your home's visual appeal, consider adding decorative flower pots that can be replanted according to the season. More pots aren't necessarily better when it comes to adding pots. A few large pots are visually more appealing than many small ones that will look cluttered and undersized. Plant clusters of the same flower or plant for an elegant look. Alternatively, make a bold statement by planting mixed colorful plants in the pots. Before making your plant selections, be sure to assess the amount of sunlight your front porch receives and pick plants that can thrive in that environment.

4) Power Wash

Dirt, grime, mold, and spider webs can accumulate on your home's exterior and pathways, diminishing its curb appeal. A yearly power wash can help restore your home's appearance and look clean and fresh.

5) Pristine, Abundant Landscape

Maintaining a healthy landscape is important to keeping your home's appearance attractive. Healthy plants, controlling weeds, trimming greenery, and regularly mulching are also important. Additionally, a lusciously planted landscape will enhance the look of your home and boost its curb appeal.

As an interior designer, I typically focus on the indoors, but I value exterior design equally. Your home's exterior reflects you as much as its interior, and maintaining an attractive exterior hints at the beauty that resides inside.
